Washington County CASSP is a network of resources and individuals concerned with the mental health needs of children with serious emotional and behavioral challenges and their families. It was established in 1990 through a federal grant to the RI Department of Children, Youth and Families.

CASSP is governed by a Local Coordinating Council which consists of community agency volunteers and family members.

Washington County CASSP serves the communities of North Kingstown, South Kingstown, Westerly, Charlestown, Hopkinton, Narragansett, Richmond, Exeter and New Shoreham.

The Washington County Child and Adolescent Service System Program seeks to build a family driven service and support system based on the strengths and needs of children with behavioral challenges and their families. Family, community, and state resources are linked with children’s needs through family friendly, child specific plans.

Children who are returning to the community from out of home placement are also eligible. Referrals can be made by anyone who wishes to help a family coordinate multi-agency services.

A Family Service Coordinator will meet with you to talk about goals and needs for your family. Community Planning Team meetings will be planned, and you may invite anyone you want to these meetings. A service plan will be put into place to address your family’s needs. Responsibilities for carrying out this plan will be clarified and reviewed in 3 month and 6 month intervals or as needed.
